NANS expresses deep concerns over early Examination schedule and Technical Failures during UTME

To:
The Chief Executive Officer,
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D', expresses deep concern over the scheduling and conduct of the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), particularly as it affects secondary school candidates.

We have received numerous complaints from candidates, parents, and guardians about the exam being fixed as early as 6:30am, which has placed undue pressure on students, many of whom had to leave their homes in the dark, facing serious risks to their safety and well-being.
Furthermore, several accredited CBT centres across the Southwest zone were unable to effectively conduct the exam due to network and technical failures. In many instances, students were left unattended or made to wait hours without proper communication or alternatives. This has caused significant distress and could potentially jeopardize the performance and future of these young candidates.
As stakeholders in the education sector and defenders of student welfare, we call on JAMB to:

Reconsider early morning exam scheduling, especially for secondary school pupils.

Strengthen the technical infrastructure and readiness of CBT centres before any UTME exercise.

Provide alternative arrangements for students affected by technical failures.

Communicate proactively with candidates and stakeholders to ensure transparency and timely updates.

We remain committed to ensuring fair, safe, and conducive conditions for all students, and we urge JAMB to act swiftly to address these challenges before they escalate further.
