NANS Secures Reinstatement of Suspended FUOYE Students Following High-Level Engagement with University Management

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has announced the successful reinstatement of students who were recently suspended by the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) following a high-level engagement between the student body and the university management.

The development comes after concerns were raised by students and stakeholders regarding the suspension of some students and issues surrounding the former Students’ Union President, Comrade James Adio. Acting on reports received from NANS JCC Ekiti Axis, the National President of NANS, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye Afeez (BABTEE), directed the Southwest Zonal Leadership to intervene and seek a peaceful resolution that would protect the academic interests of affected students.

The engagement, which took place on June 21, 2026, followed the university’s decision to open a channel of dialogue with NANS after growing concerns among students and discussions surrounding possible actions over the suspensions.

According to the Southwest Zonal Coordinator of NANS, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), extensive deliberations and fact-finding reviews were conducted during the meeting. As a result, students who were found to have been wrongfully suspended have now been reinstated and will continue their academic activities, including examinations, alongside their colleagues.

The university management also provided detailed explanations regarding the disciplinary measures previously taken against some students. NANS stated that these submissions were carefully reviewed in the interest of fairness, justice, and responsible student representation.

On the issue involving former Students’ Union President, Comrade James Adio, university authorities informed the NANS delegation that the matter would be revisited during the next sitting of the University’s Senate scheduled for Wednesday. The management assured stakeholders that the case would receive fair consideration in accordance with established institutional procedures.

Additionally, it was revealed that individuals responsible for the unlawful exposure and circulation of private content involving the former Students’ Union President had already been subjected to appropriate disciplinary and prosecutorial measures.

As part of the resolutions reached, NANS and the university management agreed to collaborate on a campus-wide sensitization programme aimed at promoting responsible student conduct, ethical use of digital platforms, leadership accountability, conflict resolution, and increased awareness of university regulations.

NANS described the outcome as a victory for constructive engagement, dialogue, and responsible advocacy, emphasizing that peaceful negotiations remain effective tools for resolving issues affecting students across the country.

The association also expressed appreciation to the National President of NANS, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye Afeez (BABTEE); NANS Head of Administration, Comrade Taiwo Owolewa; Chairman of NANS JCC Ekiti Axis, Comrade Ayeni Michael; the management of FUOYE; and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful resolution of the matter.

NANS Southwest Zone D reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring developments concerning outstanding issues while continuing to defend the rights, welfare, and academic interests of Nigerian students.
